DPRK leader Kim Jong Un was awarded the jubilee medal "80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" by a decree of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang.
“On March 27, a ceremony was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall to hand over the medal ‘80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945’. The medal had been awarded by the Russian Federation President’s decree of September 2, 2024 to Kim Jong Un, Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, for his great personal contribution to commemorating the memory of Soviet citizens who died and were buried on the territory of the DPRK,” the statement said.
Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora handed over the medal to Kang Yun Sok, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly Presidium of the DPRK. According to the diplomatic mission, this award "confirmed the high level of comprehensive strategic partnership" between the "allied states". Kang Yun Sok expressed gratitude.
The ceremony was also attended by employees of the Russian embassy and Deputy Foreign Minister of the DPRK Kim Jong Gyu. The document attached by the diplomats states that the Russian ambassador presented the award on behalf of Putin.
On June 19, in Pyongyang, Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un personally presented Putin with the Order of Kim Il Sung, the highest state award of the DPRK.
