The Soyuz-2.1a rocket launched the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft into low Earth orbit carrying Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov, Alexei Zubritsky and NASA astronaut Jonathan Kim to the International Space Station.
"The Soyuz MS-27 manned spacecraft has separated from the rocket. It has been launched into the orbit of an artificial Earth satellite," said the launch commentator on the observation deck.
The rocket blasted off at 8:47 Moscow time from Baikonur Cosmodrome Site 31.
The spacecraft will travel to the ISS under the ultra-short two-orbit scheme. The flight will take 3 hours 17 minutes. At 12:04 Moscow time, the Soyuz should dock to the Russian module Prichal
The crew's flight to the ISS is planned to last 245 days.
The launch is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Soyuz-2.1a named the Victory Rocket was decorated with symbols of the anniversary.
